Will PhosGuard remove diatoms?

It helped me eradicate brown diatoms from my planted tank, I put some on my canister filter on a media bag. For better results pre-filter new water before is put into the tank. I cut a large plastic bottle on the bottom and I put the phosguard in a media bag inside, pour water thru it into a bucket and is good to go.

What is PhosGuard used for?

PhosGuard is a high capacity and high efficiency filtration product, made by Seachem. It is designed for the removal of both phosphates and silicates from marine or fresh water aquaria. Silicates causes an unsightly brown and tan appearance on surfaces in the aquarium, especially rocks, sand and the glass.

What is the difference between PhosGuard and PhosBond?

PhosBond™ has a higher capacity than PhosGuard™ at 1.19 mg/g of PO4 bound, and combines the benefits of PhosGuard™ and a pure GFO (strength, high capacity, and rapid phosphate absorption) while still being very economical.

Is Gfo a PhosGuard?

They’re similar, but Phosguard is aluminum oxide and depletes rather quickly compared to gfo (Depending on how much phosphate is being removed, of course) and can release phosphate back into the water when exhausted (Unlike gfo.)

Does PhosGuard lower alkalinity?

“PhosGuard does not directly alter alkalinity levels. However, you may notice an indirect connection between adding PhosGuard and KH. Phosphate itself acts as a buffer in water. Lowering the amount of phosphates in your tank will indirectly affect the alkalinity levels.

Is PhosGuard better than Gfo?

I personally don’t use PhosGuard in my tank as Granulated Ferric Oxide (GFO) absorbs much more phosphate. If you can’t get your hands on GFO, then PhosGuard is a good alternative.

Use 85 mL (1/3 cup) for every 200 L (50 US gallons) saltwater or 400 L (100 US gallons) freshwater. Leave product in place for 4 days, then test phosphate or silicate concentrations with either MultiTest™ Phosphate or MultiTest™ Silicate.
