What does a PhosBan reactor do?

What does a PhosBan reactor do?

The PhosBan Reactor 150 is designed to push water upwards from the bottom and through the media. This forces an even distribution of water throughout the media and prevents channeling from occurring. This is also great for fluidizing media such as GFO where the filter media needs to tumble gently and evenly.

Is Gfo a PhosBan?

Phosban is GFO. I prefer to use a pelletized GFO (ie: Warner Marine PhosAR or BRS) as if flow dips regular GFO can fuse together in your reactor. Phosguard is an aluminum based phosphate media.

How do you open a PhosBan reactor 150?

Open reactor lid by turning counter clockwise. Check parts list to confirm that all parts are present. The reactor is supplied with all the parts needed to operate it except for the hose and pump.

How long does Phosban last?

PhosGuard™ needs to be replaced every 4 days as long as there is a phosphate problem because, given an infinite amount of available phosphate, PhosGuard™ absorbs phosphate so quickly that it reaches its full capacity in 4 days.

How long does Gfo take to reduce phosphates?

Standard BRS Granular GFO: A cost-effective solution for everyday phosphate control. (16 tbsp = 1 cup). After 4-8 weeks the aquarium will have adjusted to lower nutrient levels and the amount of GFO can be increased up to 2 tablespoons per 4 gallons of water.

What is phosphate media?

The purpose of granular ferric oxide is to inhibit algae growth by removing phosphates from the aquarium. Maintaining low phosphate levels will help prevent algae outbreaks and control growth. Serious algae outbreak is one of the most common reasons for complete tank shutdown.

How do I get rid of phosphates in my reef tank?

There are four main ways to help lower the Phosphate level in your aquarium:

  1. Water Changes & Vacuuming of Sand Bed (Detritus Removal)
  2. A Good Protein Skimmer.
  3. Macro-Algae in a Refugium or Turf Algae Scrubber.
  4. Chemical Absorption Products.

What is GFO media?

Granular Ferric Oxide (aka GFO) or iron oxide hydroxide is a reddish brown, granular-shaped filter media that is one of the most common and effective methods of reducing phosphate in a reef aquarium. GFO media is readily available, inexpensive and lasts a long time, making it a popular choice among saltwater aquarists.

How does a media reactor work?

A media reactor is an aquarium filtration device that contains filter media. It helps to increase the effectiveness of the filter media inside by forcing all water that enters the reactor to come in contact with the media.

When should I change my Gfo?

Change GFO when phosphate levels begin to rise. This is generally every 4 weeks for standard GFO and closer to 8 weeks for High Capacity GFO.
