What is the difference between 576i and 1080i?

The component 576i is created from the Broadcom chip’s deinterlaced 576p (same as 1080i is), however, it outputs the ‘wrong’ fields (i.e. it sends odd when it should be even and vice versa); which means rather than outputting the original 576i fields (as RGB scart does) it outputs the 576p deinterlaced lines as fields.
