It’s a very cross-cultural experience; there were students aboard the ship from four continents, and I traveled to 11 countries during my semester abroad. Having sailed on the 126th voyage, Semester at Sea is something I recommend to people who are highly adventurous and interested in learning about multiple cultures.

What should I bring to Semester at Sea?

Clothing

• 2 pairs of jeans (one blue, one black)
• 3 casual pants (leggings, linen pants & sweatpants)
• Socks & underwear.
• 2 casual dresses for port, 1 skirt.
• Cross-body purse, backpack for weekend trips, 1 compact mini duffel (you can put souvenirs in here for when you need extra space on your return home)

Semester at Sea is a unique, ship-based, multi-country study abroad experience academically partnered with Colorado State University. In one semester, students will get exposure to 10-14 countries across multiple continents while earning college credit and transiting over 20,000 nautical miles.

Does semester at sea make you sick?

My program was Semester at Sea and our campus was a modified cruise ship which made academic life for me and other students rather difficult. I was constantly sea sick which did not make me sick but very dizzy, a bit like motion sickness in a car.

What is the food like on semester at sea?

On the ship there are Americans and international students that are also enrolled in Semester at Sea. The food on the ship was neither great nor terrible. It got very redundant because there was the same type of meal every day with little variation. Either way you will not go hungry.
